Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy
|
Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy (QCH) is an evidence-based way of working which utilises our natural states of trance to bring about the most effective change for clients. In a research study carried out by Quest Institute, it recorded that using 118 cases measuring the effectiveness of Cognitive Hypnotherapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety, 71% of cases considered themselves recovered after an average of 4 sessions. Cognitive hypnotherapy uses the best practices of various schools of psychotherapy, NLP, positive psychology, EMI (eye movement integration), AMDR, solution-focused hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), so that every client is treated as an individual, with personalised treatment plans that work. It is therefore an ever evolving form of therapeutic practice.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy – A route through therapy that works effectively for the unique individual that you are.
Let’s say you are suffering from anxiety and you could imagine ‘Anxiety’ as a destination on a map. There are many people travelling to this destination, but all of you are travelling by different modes of transport and you are all taking different routes to get there. Some of you will travel by train, or bus, or car, some of you will travel via the motorway and some will take a different route entirely, via the country lanes and A -roads. And it may be that there is one big city called ‘Anxiety’ and there are also little subsidiary towns and villages, smaller in scale, also called ‘Anxiety’ and you can imagine that they all have connections, twinned by some tenuous link. But the thing is, you don’t really like this place and you don’t really want to go, but somehow it is like a magnet that draws you, compels you to go there without you really knowing why it is you cannot resist.
Now, if I was a therapist who had only one tool to use to prevent you getting to destination Anxiety, I might erect my road block on the motorway and for some of you that would work perfectly well, because you are travelling along that route. I have helped you to change direction and pick a different destination, to a new place called ‘Calm’. Hooray, a much more pleasant experience!
But what of the other 70% percent of you who are taking the A-roads or flying or sailing into destination Anxiety; that’s no good for you is it? You are still travelling along those subsidiary roads, so erecting a roadblock on the motorway is going to have zero effect and you are going to still end up at that place you don’t really want to go.

Unique Help for the Unique You
When we select a particular ‘brand’ of therapy, by the nature of the brand and the way in which it is ring-fenced, we are often selecting one tool, and at the same time closing off the many other possibilities, even if they have been proven to work, because that brand does not prescribe to other methods of working; it is stuck inside of its own belief system.
When you work with me as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, I do not prescribe a ‘one size fits all’ solution. There is no square peg in a round hole. What I do, is I look at the route you are taking to get to destination ‘Anxiety’, which is completely unique to you, and I send in as many resources and tools, in as many different ways as there are to target your specific way of travelling that route, which then disrupts that pattern, making it weaker, or even impossible to get to; if you need a helicopter to lift you out of there I will send it, if you need mountain rescue you can have that too, if you want me to phone a taxi… whatever helps you to change your direction. And in a lot of cases we can take out that city destination completely, which has a knock on effect on all those little towns and villages, which no longer see the through traffic, become less populated or disused entirely. At the same time, you and I work together to plot new routes to ‘Calm’, providing you with many different ways to get to that new destination, so that you can experience that future you as the person you want to be.
Cognitive hypnotherapy is a methodology that integrates the many and varied tools from the different models of therapy, using best practice from each to help you access your unique solution.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy - An Evidence-Based Approach
During 2011, Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy (QCH) launched a research study to measure the effectiveness of the cognitive hypnotherapy approach, compared to other methods of treatment. Using 118 case studies from QCH therapists, clients with anxiety and depression were assessed using the same outcome measures that are currently used within the NHS to measure the effectiveness of talking therapies. The results of the study were published in the Mental Health Review Journal in 2015.
Findings showed that, "using 118 cases measuring the effectiveness of Cognitive Hypnotherapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety, 71% considered themselves recovered after an average of 4 sessions. This compared to an average of 42% for other approaches using the same measures (like CBT). To our knowledge, this is the only hypnotherapy approach to have been validated in this way."
